Choosing Dysport
There are several similarities between Dysport and BOTOX Cosmetic. Both temporarily treat "dynamic wrinkles" (caused by facial muscle movement) by relaxing associated facial muscles. Both contain a purified Clostridium botulinum protein.
Dysport offers our Sacramento patients some advantages over BOTOX, as well. Dysport has been found to take effect within 1 to 2 days, instead of 3 to 5 days for BOTOX. Therefore, Dysport might be the right choice for last-minute rejuvenation. The effects of Dysport have been found to spread farther from the injection site, which can be beneficial when treating larger areas.
Dysport Treatments
These simple treatments take only about 10 to 20 minutes to perform. Dysport is injected with a fine needle directly into specific areas of the facial muscles that are causing the targeted wrinkles. Most patients don't require local anesthetic, but it is available if desired.
Within a day or 2 of treatment, wrinkles soften and diminish as the treated muscles gradually relax. You'll look younger while maintaining a natural expression because Dysport won't affect your ability to blink or raise your eyebrows. Improvements can last about 3 to 4 months, after which you may need to return for a touch-up treatment. Some patients with more significant sagging might consider a facelift or brow lift instead.
