Palomar Laser Treatments

Kaufman & Clark Plastic Surgery offers advanced laser skin care with the StarLux® 500 laser from Palomar Medical Technologies. This laser technology allows us to offer the Tri-lux™ process for skin rejuvenation:

Photo-Rejuvenation

The Palomar Photo-Rejuvenation process clears sun damaged areas of pigmentation on the face, neck, chest, shoulders and back. It also addresses rosacea, spider veins and individual blood vessels which can be red, blue or purple in color. The photo-rejuvenation hand piece can be used on most areas except directly around the eyes. The face, neck, chest, arms, back and legs can all be treated safely and effectively.

Palomar Laser Treatments The Palomar Photo-Rejuvenation laser uses a specialized hand piece which emits pulses of light into the skin. The light is absorbed by the pigment in sunspots and the hemoglobin in visible vessels, causing these lesions to fade out within two weeks in most cases.

Our photo-rejuvenation process provides skin-safe, comfortable, and effective photo facials with little to no downtime. Photo rejuvenation appointments are quick so you can return to work or other activities right away. Typically, a few visits will be necessary to treat sunspots, rosacea, and visible blood vessels.

What to expect after your Photo-Rejuvenation treatment:

Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2 to 24 hours and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs.
Sunspots will darken after treatment and be naturally shed from the skin within 1 to 2 weeks.
Skin tone will typically benefit from less pronounced redness within a week after treatments.
Spider veins may disappear after treatment or they may appear darker and then fully or partially fade within 10 to 14 days.

Skin Resurfacing

Some skin resurfacing devices, such as CO2 lasers, use an "ablative" method to remove the epidermis and some of the dermis. While good results can be achieved with this method, drawbacks include red and raw skin, longer down time and the risk of infection for several weeks after treatment.

With our "easier on the skin" fractional non-ablative laser skin treatment, the resurfacing light pulses are confined to narrow columns that penetrate the skin, surrounded by areas of unaffected skin. This staggering or "fractionation" promotes a faster healing process. Some people notice positive changes in skin appearance within a few days.

What to expect after your fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing:

You may experience redness, warmth, swelling or tightness in the treated area, which should fade within a few hours after treatment. The skin usually has a pinkish tone for 1 to 2 days but this coloration may last up to 1 week.
Generally, you can receive a treatment and return to work or other activities without any recovery time.
A series of treatments at 3 to 6 week intervals may be required to achieve the desired results.

Skin Tightening

For skin tightening, the StarLux 500 laser allows us to deliver infrared light deep into the skin's dermis, stimulating the body's natural healing response. This encourages growth of new tissue, reducing the appearance of skin laxity on the face, neck, knees and abdomen. The result: a tighter skin appearance.

While other lasers use one large beam to deliver infrared light into the skin, our laser uses many small staggered infrared beams. This fractional approach promotes faster healing and, because it leaves a portion of the skin unaffected by the light pulses, is safer and more comfortable than the bulk heating approach of many other systems. Our laser also uses a 3-stage cooling method to cool the skin before, during, and after each light pulse and minimize discomfort.

After your Skin Tightening treatment:

You may experience lingering warmth, tightness or redness in the treated area for a few hours after treatment. Generally, you can receive a treatment and go back to work or other activities without any recovery time.
A series of treatments at 4 to 6 week intervals may be required to achieve the desired skin firmness.
