Labiaplasty Sacramento

Choosing Labiaplasty

While not a new procedure, more and more women are hearing about labiaplasty, or surgery to correct large or misshapen labial skin that covers the vaginal opening. Though choosing to have this procedure is ultimately an intimate, personal decision, women in the Sacramento, Folsom and Roseville areas come to the Folsom plastic surgery offices of Kaufman & Clark for advice and guidance on their labial reconstruction options.

Candidates for Labiaplasty

Candidates for labiaplasty include women born with enlarged or protruding labia and those whose labia enlarge due to childbirth, age, or sexual activity. Extended labia can be uncomfortable and can cause anxiety in intimate settings. Women request labiaplasty surgery for personal reasons. Some feel discomfort during sexual intercourse because of the enlarged labia and desire surgical reduction. However, many women have labiaplasty surgery simply to change the appearance of their external genitalia by reducing the protrusion of the labia.

Talk to Your Plastic Surgeon

During your consultation, you will be able to get a better sense of how labiaplasty can improve the appearance and comfort of this area. Labia reduction requires application of local anesthetic to the surgical area, along with intravenous sedation or a general anesthetic. Your surgeon will work to sculpt the labia skin and surrounding tissue. This outpatient procedure takes about one hour to perform.

Recovery

Within three to five days after your procedure, you should be able to return to your normal routine. You will need to avoid strenuous physical activity, including sexual activity, for several weeks.
