Featured Procedure: Grandma Makeover
More and more women are taking care of themselves these days. At Kaufman & Clark Plastic Surgery, we have seen a large number of women in their 50's and 60’s interested in body contouring. This can range from an abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, breast lift, or combination of procedures. This month we highlight our grandma makeover---and salute those women who are interested in not getting older, only better!
Our first grandma featured is an energetic 61 year old who was tired of camouflaging her midsection. She was seen at our practice and found to be a great candidate for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure. She had her surgery in the spring of 2009 and is very happy with her results. She now has the freedom to wear any type of clothing she wants….even a bikini. Her only regret is that she should have done this for herself years ago!

Our next patient is a 63 year old who was tired of her heavy, sagging breasts and also wanted to change the appearance of her mid body. She was seen at our practice and felt to be an ideal candidate for a breast lift and abdominoplasty procedures. In the fall of 2008 she had her makeover surgery. She was thrilled with her results and new clothing choices. She tells us at each post-op visit that if any grandmas need convincing to do something like this for themselves, she would love to talk to them about her very positive experience.

Our last grandma featured is a vivacious 64 year old who started the makeover process with a breast reduction and lift. After seeing what a positive difference this surgery made for her appearance and well-being, she opted to go for a tummy tuck as well! Her results speak for themselves and the surgery has not slowed her down a bit. She is back to traveling, roller skating and visiting her grandchildren.

Featured Non-surgical Procedure: Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins
The summer months are upon us, and that means shorts, skirts, and bathing suits—all items that expose the legs. Many women and some men are bothered by unsightly spider veins, the very small red and purple veins that crop up on the legs or face from gravity and aging. Spider veins are typically treated with either lasers or injections, or a combination of both modalities. While the summer months make laser treatment for spider veins more difficult, sclerotherapy (injection therapy) for spider veins is a great option that can be done while the skin is tanned. Treatment appointments range from a half hour to one hour depending upon the severity of your problem. Staff Highlight: Sam Morgan
Sam Morgan is our highly talented surgical assistant. Although she has been with our office for almost one year, she has been involved in plastic surgery as a surgical technician for almost nine years. In addition to keeping our busy operating room running smoothly, she can be found from time to time in the clinic seeing both old and new patients with Dr. Kaufman and Dr. Clark.
She is an Auburn area native and now lives in the foothills with her wonderful husband and two grown children. When not hard at work, she likes to spend as much time as possible outdoors and enjoys camping, biking, and the occasional bass fishing trips with her husband, Ken!

Obagi Blue Peel®
If you have blemish prone skin, acne, wrinkles, unwanted pigmentation, large pores, sun damage or generally poor, fine skin, you can gain more from an Obagi Blue Peel® than from more routine treatments, with a quick recovery time. The overall Obagi skin care program is a medical grade line that refines texture and fine lines and lightens pigmentation from aging and sun damage. Once a client has been adequately prepped by the skin care program, they are ready for the more aggressive Obagi Blue Peel. This 35% TCA peel is a medical peel and only performed by a trained aesthetician under medical supervision.
Although the Blue Peel can be performed on an awake patient using a local anesthetic mask, many clients find it convenient to “add-on” an Obagi Blue Peel during their surgery procedure while under a general anesthetic. Down time after a Blue Peel is about one week, as the layers of old, pigmented, tired looking skin begin to peel off the face, allowing the fresh new skin beneath to be revealed.
