A Disney Adventure for a Family in Need
We received a submission to our Dream Grantor Program from a good friend of Ponderosa High School coach and mentor, Chic Bist. In the submission, we were told that Chic, who is currently experiencing severe health issues, is a “pillar in our community who endlessly gives to everyone around him.” Because of Chic’s dedication to the students and his community, Dr. Kaufman felt Chic was very deserving of some time away with his own family – his teenage daughter and wife. We were more than happy to arrange for Chic and his family to visit the happiest place on earth and create the memories of a lifetime, Disneyland!
We received the following note from the Bist Family after their trip:
Dr. Kaufman ,
I just want to thank you and your staff for sending me, my wife and my daughter to Disneyland. It was a trip I will never forget. My daughter had the time of her life, and we couldn’t ask for better weather.
Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for making this wish I had to take my daughter for her very first time to Disneyland come true.
Not knowing what the future has in store for me it was a trip we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Chic, Holly and Hope Bist
A Friend in Need
Shortly before Christmas this last year, we received a submission to our Dream Grantor Program from a woman who wanted to bring the needs of her good friend forward. In her submission, she informed us of a local woman and mother of five, who in October, had her world turned upside down when her husband was in a bad car accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down, making her the sole provider for their family. As a result of this recent tragedy, the holiday season was put on hold, so their family could focus on paying medical bills and other everyday costs.
Undoubtedly, Dr. Kaufman was honored to give this wonderful family the Christmas they so deserved and per mom’s request, provided them with gift cards to their favorite stores, so the kids could have some fun and enjoy the holiday season.
A Night at the Ballpark
Christina and Joey have three children, including their 18-year old son, Joseph who lives with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a recessive x-linked form of muscular dystrophy affecting young males and results in rapid muscle degeneration. For this reason, Joseph is in a wheelchair and completely dependent on his parents for everything from taking a bath to scratching an itch. Even more, Christina and Joey both work full-time and somehow juggle the day-to-day tasks with no additional help to take care of Joseph and the rest of their family.
Undoubtedly, this hard working and loving family deserved some fun and excitement and because Joseph is a huge Rivercats fan, we were happy to provide them a night at Raley Field for “Pirate and Princess Night”!
Armed Forces Day Gala
A young woman wrote to us about her 55-year old father, who had recently been diagnosed with the most aggressive form of ALS. She referred to her father as “extremely hard working,” a “loving husband of 28-years,” and “selfless.” With the short time her father had been given, all she wanted was for her amazing parents to be able to spend time together. We were humbled to have been able to give these two very deserving people the opportunity to enjoy a getaway in beautiful Yosemite.
A Getaway for a Deserving Couple
A local father with four children – two adopted out of foster care – served two tours in Iraq and came home with a traumatic brain injury and severe PTSD. Aside from his “invisible injuries” as his wife calls them, her husband also suffers intense physical pain due to the shrapnel retained in his spine. His wife contacted us and asked for a hot tub that her husband can use on days when his pain is at its worst. We are humbled and honored to be able to help this very deserving man who gave and continues to give so much for our country.
A Therapeutic Soak for a Wounded Veteran
A mother and her two little ones (ages 4 and 2 ½) had been hit with a series of hardships over the last few years and for that reason, they have never been able to take a family vacation. Her dream was to spend quality time with her family and celebrate her son’s 5th Birthday at Disneyland. Needless to say, we were more than happy to send this very deserving, loving, and hard-working family to the most magical place on earth for a weekend full of smiles and memories.
A Soldier’s Homecoming
We welcomed home from San Antonio, Texas Private Blake Wilson to spend Christmas with his family! Blake’s mom asked for help in bringing her son, who is training to be a Cardiologist Tech in the Army, home for the holidays. Blake and his family stopped by our office to extend a huge thanks to Dr. Kaufman for making their Christmas wish come true.
