Chin Implants
You are not alone if you feel like your chin is not as strong or defined as you’d like. Many women and men seek better definition in this area of their face. By using a chin implant, our surgeons can correct a weak chin, improve the definition of the jawline, and provide balance for your facial proportions.
In general, men who have this procedure are looking to create a more square or chiseled jaw appearance. For women, the focus is usually on creating increased symmetry and balance with the rest of their facial features. Our surgeons use chin implants in a variety of shapes and sizes to help create a custom contoured look.

Best Candidates for Chin Augmentation
Both men and women can be good candidates for a chin implant. If you feel you have a poorly defined or “weak” chin, our surgeons can review your facial anatomy during your consultation and propose a cosmetic improvement plan. It’s important to be in good physical and mental health and have realistic expectations about how you might look after surgery.

Your Consult
If chin surgery is a good fit for your plastic surgery goals, your plastic surgeon will review the types of implants and incision methods during your consultation. Solid silicone implants are usually the best option for most patients. Different implant shapes can change the projection and overall look of your chin.
Many people considering chin implants can benefit from other facial procedures to help create improved balance and symmetry. These may include nose surgery, chin liposuction, or dermal fillers. All of your options can be discussed in detail during your one-on-one time with your surgeon.
What to Expect
Chin implants are most often placed using a small incision inside of the mouth, or in some cases, under the chin. The implant is secured to the jaw and once fully healed should feel like a natural part of your jaw. Our surgeons perform chin implant procedures while patients are under anesthesia.
Chin Implant Recovery
Occasionally, patients will have some temporary numbness of the lower lip and chin, and may notice temporary change in facial muscle movement in the area. All nerve and muscle function should return to normal when your healing is complete.
Chin augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure in our surgical suite. You’ll be able to go home the day of your procedure to start recovering. The chin area will be bandaged, and you will return to our office the next day to have dressings removed. Once removed, you will be required to wear a compression wrap for 4-6 weeks to help with swelling. Most people plan to take the week off work so they can recover in comfort and privacy. You should not experience substantial discomfort as the incision heals, but pain medication can be prescribed if necessary.
Chin Implant Results
Your initial results will be concealed due to bandages and swelling in the area where the implant was placed. But after the bandages are removed and the swelling subsides, you should have a good idea of your final results. Most of our chin augmentation patients are very excited to see the look they envisioned come to life when they look in the mirror.
