Jewish Doctor Busted for Music Video

Dr. Kaufman

A Jewish plastic surgeon who commissioned the creation a music video called “Jewcan Sam” is facing an ethics investigation. Whatever that means. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has also deemed the video “inappropriate and offensive.”

Is the music video offensive? You can view it here and decide for yourself.

A representative from the Anti-Defamation League, Andrew Rosenkranz, said the video, which makes light of large Jewish noses, dehumanizes Jews and opens old wounds. He sort of has a point – exaggerating physical features and thereby making Jews seem less than human was an integral part of a certain notoriously horrifying and successful propaganda campaign.

But with a name like the “Anti-Defamation League,” you can’t help but wonder if there isn’t just room full of people sitting around waiting for a trivial reason to get upset. Self-deprecating humor based on breakfast cereal mascot puns doesn’t really compare to holding a genocide rally. The music video doesn’t feel aggressive or seem to come from a place of hate so I have no problem with it, but I’m not part of a “league,” so what do I know?

The Jewish surgeon was just poking fun at himself and his race and trying to drum up some publicity at the same time, though it looks like he ended up getting more publicity than he wanted.
