CoolSculpting® FAQs
Many men and women have troublesome pockets of stubborn fat along the face or body that won’t respond to diet or exercise. Although some people choose to treat problem fat with liposuction, others would prefer a non-invasive method. CoolSculpting® is an innovative, nonsurgical fat reduction treatment that targets specific areas of fat with freezing technology.*
If you’re interested in the benefits of CoolSculpting®, you may have questions about the treatment as well as what you can expect. The Natural Result / Center for Aesthetic Artistry has answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about CoolSculpting® at our Sacramento practice. If you have a question about CoolSculpting® that you don’t see here, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.
-
How does CoolSculpting® work?Through a handheld device or other applicator, CoolSculpting® applies a controlled freezing to the intended treatment site(s). The dramatically cold temperatures crystallize and destroy the fat cells without harming the surrounding tissue. The destroyed fat cells are absorbed and excreted through the body’s natural metabolic processes.
-
Am I a good candidate for CoolSculpting®?CoolSculpting®, like liposuction, is not a substitute for weight loss. This nonsurgical body contouring procedure is intended to spot-treat the areas of fat that don’t respond to diet or exercise. The best CoolSculpting® candidates are men and women in good health who exercise, consume a healthy diet and are within 20 pounds of their ideal weight.
-
Where is CoolSculpting® most effective?CoolSculpting® may be used nearly anywhere on the body safely and effectively. Popular treatment spots for CoolSculpting® include the abdomen, waist, inner and outer thighs, back and the double chin.
-
What can I expect from my CoolSculpting® treatment?During your CoolSculpting® treatment, a protective gel pad will be placed on your skin over your treatment area. The CoolSculpting® applicator will gently pinch the excess fat, and you’ll feel pressure and suction, but no pain. After your CoolSculpting® procedure, it’s normal to experience some redness, slight bruising, numbness or tingling in the treated area. These side effects should resolve within several days.
-
Can CoolSculpting® be combined with other procedures?CoolSculpting® can be a stand-alone treatment, or it can be combined with other procedures. Some women may include CoolSculpting® as part of a mommy makeover or other plastic surgery procedure.
-
How many CoolSculpting® treatments will I need?A typical CoolSculpting® treatment session can last between 1 to 4 hours, depending on how extensive the treatment area is. During this time, many people read, watch a movie, relax or catch up on emails. We may recommend one treatment or a series of treatments. If you need more than one treatment of the same area, we schedule follow-up sessions 3 months apart.
-
How long will my CoolSculpting® results last?CoolSculpting® freezes fat cells,* but is not an immunization against future weight gain. After CoolSculpting®, it’s still important to maintain a stable, healthy weight through eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise.
