Non-Invasive Weight Loss

At this very moment, there are a lot of smart scientists and engineers working on magic-wand like devices that will emulate the effects of liposuction or gastric bypass surgery but without all the pesky cutting, anesthesia and annoying recovery time.  It almost sounds too good to be true—an object that will allow you to lose weight merely by touching it—a modern-day equivalent of the legendnary fountain of youth.  But is it too good to be true?  Take a look at these non-invasive weight loss solutions available to people in Sacramento to find out.

This is a new technique that uses high intensity ultrasound to “cause permanent disruption, or ablation, of subcutaneous adipose tissue in the anterior abdomen without damaging the epidermis, dermis or underlying tissues and organs.” In other words, it uses sound waves to zap your fat, but leaves everything else unharmed. Or so they say—it hasn’t been approved by the FDA yet, so you won’t find it in the U.S.

Like LipoSonix, Ultrashape uses sound waves to zap fat. The creators claim the procedure sculpts the body and produces smooth, uniform results, causes no bruising or swelling, and requires no recovery period. Sounds pretty good.

However, Ultrashape is also not yet available in the U.S. and, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to live up to all the claims, at least according to the reviews on

EndoBarrier Gastrointestinal Liner

The creators of this device try to dazzle people while explaining what it is, but let’s be honest: it’s a tube that you swallow. It stays in your intestine, preventing you from digesting some of the food that you eat. The nice thing about it is that it does work. In tests it showed a 12% increase in weight loss when compared to a control group that was not using the device. According to the same tests, it also helps in the remission of type 2 diabetes. Putting it in doesn’t require surgery and it comes out the same way it went in. They also claim that using the liner has no side effects. Not bad.

And…(drum roll please)… it’s not available in the U.S.

CoolSculpting® by Zeltiq

This machine works by using cool temperatures to slowly kill fat cells. Fat is placed between the paddles and after a few treatments and four to six weeks later, patients begin to see the results. It’s not the fountain of youth, but it does work, it doesn’t hurt, and best of all, it’s available in the U.S. In fact, we’ve got a CoolSculpting® machine right here in our office in Folsom if you ever want to try it out.
