While it is no surprise that breast implants top the list of cosmetic surgeries for women, it may be somewhat of a shock to find that breast lift procedures are growing at twice the rate of breast implant procedures—increasing 70% since 2000.
At Kaufman , we too are seeing this trend. More women are seeking to enhance the look of their breasts by using the tissue they already have. A breast lift (also known as a mastopexy) includes removing the excess skin and tightening the tissue to reconfigure and support the breast.
Should You Have a Breast Lift?
This surgical procedure is best suited for women who have lost the shape and fullness of their breasts due to childbirth, breast feeding, weight loss, and the inevitable…aging. Dr. Kaufman recognizes that every woman’s physical makeup is different and for that reason, each case is unique. Some women will benefit from a breast lift on its own, while others may consider combining a lift with another enhancement procedure, such as augmentation or reduction. Here’s a quick test to help you determine your candidacy.
The Pencil Test
As the name suggest, the pencil test requires you to track down a pencil (or pen) for measurement. Simply place your favorite writing implement under the fold of your breast. If the breast tissue holds the pencil/pen in place without further assistance, it’s a sign that you may be a breast lift candidate.
We perform many breast procedures—breast implants, breast lifts, breast implants with a lift—and consistently produce happy patients.
