With an increasing number of people getting plastic surgery, the stigma of going under the knife is quickly disappearing. And yet the rumor mill still ponders whether “stars” like JWoww from the Jersey Shore snuck out for secret surgery. This after she already admitted to having plastic surgery before. So what’s the big deal? Why do we care so much?
Between tanning beds, injectable fillers, plastic surgery, hundreds or even thousands of dollars spent on hair care and makeup, everyone is buying some help in the beauty department and everyone has the same goal – looking good. It’s not a secret that people do this or that the desire to be as beautiful as possible exists – it’s common and perfectly acceptable by today’s standards. So why the secrecy? Is there some hidden shame in not being born looking like Sophia Loren?
So, why so curious? Why is everyone clamoring to know exactly what happened to Lindsay Lohan’s neck line? Is it to privately judge, a morbid curiosity or do we just want to know what she did so we can copy her and look like a star too? I’m not sure what the answer is, but it’s good that we live in a society where talking openly about plastic surgery and appearance is embraced, especially when it comes to women. Historically, women have not always had the freedom to do what they want and that’s still true in many parts of the world today.
So whether Rihanna did or didn’t get some work done, good for her either way and God bless the USA!
