The decision to allow my daughter, at age 16 to have a rhinoplasty was tough decision. Allowing her to go through and elective surgery on her face weighed heavy on me. Was I being vein to allow her to have a surgery that was not medically necessary?
My daughter would come home from school in tears because of the mean comments that her peers would make to her. All of her friends were dating boys and she was afraid that because of her broken nose she would not find someone. Breaking her nose in sports had clearly broken her confidence. That is when I made the decision to let her move forward with the surgery. I had always trusted the ability of Sacramento plastic surgeon Dr. Kaufman , I just felt that my daughter may have been too young, but seeing my once outgoing and vibrant daughter be so sad and hurt by this, I knew I had to get over my own insecurities so she could get over hers and blossom as she once was.
Instantly after surgery there was a difference in her demeanor. She was texting all of her friends within 2 hours after leaving our office.
Watching the splint and sutures removed from my daughter’s nose a week after surgery was like a hallmark commercial. They handed her the mirror to show her and she had a blank stare. We were all not sure if she was happy with the results. She then started to cry and reached over to the doctor and began thanking him. It was so rewarding as a parent to see your daughter so overwhelmed with emotions that even Dr. Kaufman had to turn away to wipe his tears away.
My only warning to parents who are thinking about this procedure for their children would be to add minutes to your cell phone plans, because the phone is ringing off of the hook!!
