CoolSculpting® is now one of the most popular nonsurgical body contouring treatments available, offering men and women an alternative to liposuction to get rid of exercise-resistant fat.
Before it became a household name across the country, however, CoolSculpting had a surprising beginning — and our very own Dr. Kaufman helped to develop the concept into the world-renowned treatment we know today!
CoolSculpting and Popsicles
The cryolipolysis process behind how CoolSculpting works was developed from the knowledge of a phenomenon known as “popsicle panniculitis,” originally witnessed when children who ate popsicles developed dimples on their cheeks.
Cryolipolysis uses very cold temperatures to destroy and remove unwanted fat cells in the treated area.
Harvard doctors Dr. Rox Anderson and Dr. Deiter Manstein continued studying and researching the mechanisms behind why cold popsicles could cause dimples on your cheeks.
Dr. Kaufman Aided in CoolSculpting Research and Development
Fast-forward to 2005, and Zeltiq, the company that previously owned CoolSculpting, was founded. There, the work that Drs. Anderson and Manstein had begun, went through vigorous clinical trials. Dr. Kaufman was one of the principal investigators who assisted with the clinical trials that refined the research and development of the first CoolSculpting devices.
What Makes CoolSculpting Stand Out?
CoolSculpting truly was and is a revolutionary device. It was the first of its kind to effectively remove unwanted fat without surgery or an otherwise invasive procedure.
Since its early days, CoolSculpting technology has continued to evolve and improve, offering a cutting-edge fat-removal treatment option for men and women across the world.
