What to Expect

For microneedling appointments, we use SkinPen, a small handheld device (shaped like a pen, hence the name) with a sterilized tip containing 12 ultra-small needles. These needles create “micro-injuries” within the treated skin, triggering the skin’s natural healing response and new collagen and elastin production in the deeper skin layers.

Microneedling is a popular choice for facial skin but it can safely be used on areas of the body as well to improve skin appearance and tone. For instance, it can work on the neck and chest to lessen the appearance of sun damage, and can even be used to treat stretch marks on the abdomen, hips, or thighs.

Microneedling “opens up” your skin and allows skincare products to be adsorbed more effectively. For this reason, we will provide guidance on which products to use post-treatment so that you can take the best possible care of your skin and achieve your best results.

Your Treatment Appointment

Prior to your microneedling appointment, you’ll have a brief consultation with one of our aestheticians to review your skincare needs. We offer flexible appointment times so that you can fit a microneedling treatment into even the busiest daily schedule.

This meeting is also a good time to bring up any additional questions you may have or ask about the range of med spa services we offer.

Each microneedling session usually takes about 30 minutes to complete, but may be longer if we are treating a larger-sized area.

Recovery & Results

Microneedling is minimally invasive, but you should plan for some redness and swelling that typically lasts 12 to 48 hours after treatment. You can use concealer if you feel self-conscious, and we advise wearing a high quality sunscreen on the treated area (and regularly reapplying).

You can notice improved skin appearance soon after your first microneedling appointment, but most people see their best results after a series of treatments. Unlike fillers and other med spa treatments that deliver immediate results, the results of a microneedling treatment appear gradually over the course of several weeks, as the natural collagen process kicks into gear.
